How can pressure cookers explode
Pressure cookers work by building up pressure inside the pot, which in turn cooks food faster. However, if the pressure inside the cooker becomes too high, it can cause the cooker to explode. This can happen if the cooker is not properly vented, if there is a problem with the pressure release valve, or if the cooker has defects in the design or manufacturing process. If a pressure cooker explodes, it can cause serious burns to anyone nearby.

Safety concerns with Bene Casa pressure cookers
Our office has handled many pressure cooker injury cases against many major pressure cooker companies like Sunbeam, Instant Pot, Tristar, Gourmia and others, including a claim against Bene Casa. Our investigation revealed obvious discrepancies between the diagrams and the unit.
The product provides multiple safety features and assurances to customers:
- Floating Valve: As the cooker builds pressure, this valve is pushed up which creates a seal, locking the lid.
- Pressure Safety Valve: Safety feature that allows excess pressure to escape if too much pressure builds up.
- MBR Warrants their registered products free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of 1-3 years from the original purchase.
The instruction manual accompanying the Bene Casa Pressure Cooker may have misleading and incorrect information that gives consumers a false sense of security, and which inadequately warns consumers of the inherent risks when cooking with the units. For example, in one version of their instruction manual and box, Bene Casa provided three separate diagrams with the pressure cooker and all three diagrams fail to point out where the float valve is, despite hailing the float valve as a safety feature against over-pressurization. There were other obvious errors located throughout the manual. The manual was littered with typos and the diagrams did not match up and even mislabeled the parts located on the lid of the pressure cooker. In one part, the vent tube was mislabeled as the alarm. One part of the manual warns not the fill the pan over 1/3 for expanding foods and then another page of the manual states not to fill the cooker over the ½ fill line for an expanding food. At least one model did not even have the specified fill line identifier located on the pan.
Bene Casa Pressure Cooker Lawsuit

In 2022, Bene Casa was hit with a lawsuit alleging their pressure cooker is defective and can cause severe burns. The Bene Casa pressure cooker lawsuit alleges that the company’s pressure cookers have a design defect that can cause the cookers to explode and release scalding hot food and liquids, resulting in serious injuries.
