Elmiron Maculopathy Lawsuits
The allegation is that the makers of Elmiron failed to warn users of the risk of developing maculopathy. Maculopathy is a progressive eye disease that can lead to vision loss, usually in both eyes. A recent study found a link between the use Elmiron and increased ocular toxicity.
In January 2020, several doctors published a study of 117 patients. “We believe that our findings add strong support to the growing body of evidence that links long-term PPS use to the potential development of a toxic maculopathy,” the authors said.
“It’s unfortunate,” Vora said in an American Academy of Ophthalmology news release. “You have a patient with a chronic condition like interstitial cystitis, for which there is no cure and no effective treatment. They get put on these medications because it’s thought to have few side effects and few risks, and no one thinks about it again. And year after year, the number of pills they’re taking goes up and up.”
According to research, some of the first symptoms of maculopathy are blurred vision, dark spots, and trouble focusing. As the disease progresses, it may lead to total blindness in one or both eyes.
If you are suffering from maculopathy, or vision problems, and were taking Elmiron, you may be entitled to file an Elmiron lawsuit to see if you are entitled to compensation from Janseen Pharmaceuticals for failing to warn of the risk of the medicine. Can Elmiron cause blindness?
A recent study found that several people who used Elmiron for a long period of time suffered retinal damage.
Elmiron Warning Label Change
In June 2020, Elmiron changed its label to warn of certain eye issues from taking the medication. Unfortunately, this warning comes too late for many who suffered from maculopathy, and other eye problems after taking the drug.
Some of the reported eye issues following use of Elmiron include:
- Macular degeneration
- Pigmentary maculopathy
- Retinal maculopathy
- Blurred vision
- Difficulty reading
- Distorted vision
- Eye pain
- Issues adjusting to darkness
- Vision disturbances
- Vision loss
If you suffered from any of these and were taking Elmiron, see if you qualify for claim compensation.
